I have successfully removed black mildew from cotton curtains and linings, by squirting the area very well with commercial stain remover, (I used “Friend” brand). I left them several hours (or overnight); then washed them and dried in sunshine. They were creamy-white and came up clean, with no sign of mildew remaining.
This did not work for “Thermadrapes” when I’ve tried it, as they have a special backing.
